5 Underrated Immune Boosting Strategies

1. Manage Gut Health

The gut is the “gateway to health” and houses 80% of your immune system. If your gut is not healthy, neither is your immune system.

The easiest way to address this is to find a high quality probiotic and add it to your daily supplements.

We absolutely approve of cutting out processed food, as well. (read our top three dietary changes you need to make, today, here)

Most processed food is high in sugar which can cause imbalances in the gut.

Processed foods are also notoriously low in fiber, another cause of gut distress. Healthy gut bacteria requires an optimal amount of fiber intake. 🥬 A diet with a variety of high fiber fruits and vegetables helps our good bacteria thrive and increase, protecting a healthy biome. The healthier our gut bacteria are, the thicker our gut lining will be which means a better barrier 😌 between your body and invading bacteria that your body is trying to get rid of/excrete.

2. Water and Lemon for the Immune System

Our co-owner, Natalie, recommends starting your day with lemon and water.

Natalie says:

“When you wake up, squeeze fresh lemon juice into a mug full of hot water and drink it. This helps flush out and purify the body internally, and can help reduce toxins and bacteria in the small intestine that can lead to acne.
“As a rich source of vitamin C, lemon juice protects the body from immune system deficiencies. In addition, lemon juice with water helps in weight loss as it promotes digestion and increases the metabolic rate.”

It’s a good way to get the digestive system moving in the morning so you start your day with those toxins removed from your body!

3. Massage

Research indicates that massage therapy can help prevent the cold and flu by strengthening the immune system.

Massage increases movement of the body’s white blood cells 🥰 (that fight viruses), which in turn decreases cortisol (stress hormone) so your immune system gets a boost, which leads us to our next stress-defeating tool!

4. Reduce Stress

What are your go-to stress relieving tools? (see our blog containing our favorites, here).

When we're stressed, our body has to work to regenerate the affected cells. This takes vitamin c and essential proteins to do. In turn, the immune system's ability to fight off bacteria and viruses is reduced.

The stress hormone corticosteroid can also lower the number of lymphocytes which in turn suppress the effectiveness of the immune system.

5. Lymphatic Drainage

Swedish and lymphatic drainage massage are immune-boosting power plays.
