Three Tips you Need Before Starting Spring

Updated: Mar 24, 2021

Prevention is gold.

When it comes to your health, preventing (rather than treating) damage is the priority. We love helping our clients heal impairments to their skin, but our goal is for you to feel and look beautiful!

The best way is to protect your skin from wear and tear, proactively.

Sun damage is the leading cause of aging in the skin and can lead to issues like scarring, brown spots, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and melasma.

Just in time for spring, we have a few pointers for you to protect your skin from sun damage.

1. Make it a part of your daily routine

If there’s one thing you do on a daily basis, apply sunscreen on your face and neck (even on a rainy or cloudy day or indoors in a sunny room).

Make it easy and use an SPF infused foundation or moisturizer. If you apply it as a separate layer, use it after you apply your morning moisturizer + before your makeup primer, then let it dry for 2-3 minutes before adding primer.

SPF requires a double cleanse to remove at the end of the night (specifically on your face) – but you should be doing that anyway, right?

TIP: Be very careful by using retinol (Vitamin A) during the day. Rather use it at night.

2. Use SPF 30+ that blocks UVA and UVB rays

In truth, 100% blockage is unlikely, but an SPF (sun protection factor) over 30 should be your goal!

You also always want to make sure that your sunscreen provides both UVA & UVB protection.

  • UVB rays are short, high energy wavelengths that enter your skin's top layer or the ‘dermis’. UVB rays can cause freckles, skin pigmentation, sun spots and burns

  • UVA rays affect the DNA of your cells and go much deeper into the skin. These rays can cause skin cancer, wrinkles and aging.

TIP: think UVA ‘aging’ and UVB ‘burning’

3. Prioritize High Quality Ingredients

Go for titanium dioxide or zinc oxide instead of chemicals like para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), dioxybenzone, oxybenzone, or sulisobenzone. If you have skin irritation or allergies, avoid sunscreens with alcohol, fragrances, or preservatives.
